WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU BOOK YOUR SESSION.

Boudoir is a very specialized genre of photography that takes an incredible amount of knowledge and training. Boudoir photography is not a genre any photographer can decide to provide. With boudoir, you need a photographer with experience. Below I have outlined a few things to consider before booking your boudoir session.

Consider asking to see an entire sessions (or three) and see if their portfolio is diverse.

Why is this important?
Most photographers display their best images on their social media profiles and websites. But have you ever wondered what an entire session looks like? I have several full sessions to share if you want to know what to expect from an entire session. If a photographer cannot provide you with a few full sessions, you may want to consider a different studio.

Another thing to consider is diversity in their portfolio? It's important to know your photographer is familiar with different body types, ages, and races. It is important to know your photographer can provide consistent results regardless of who they are working with. These are all super important things to consider before hiring your photographer.

Consider hiring a photographer who specialize in boudoir.

Boudoir is such a personal form of photography and shouldn't be trusted to just anyone. A Boudoir Specialist will better understand posing, lighting, wardrobe, professional photography labs, and service specific to boudoir to make your experience the absolute best. You would never choose a general surgeon over a cardiologists for heart surgery. Why would you do the same with such a personal form of photography? Don't just trust your nudes to anyone.

Consider the experience the photographer provides.

Pick a photographer that offers the works and can make your experience truly special! Does your photographer offer hair and makeup? Wardrobe guidance? Prep Guides? Lingerie in the studio? Professional retouching? What about professional quality products? We only work with vendors who meet our incredibly high standard and who have experience working with boudoir photographers. Our vendors understand what an intimate and important experience this is and take the privacy and handling of your images very seriously.

Does your photographer offer add-on services? Our studio offers several add-on services, but my absolute favorite would have to be the Boudoir Film. Boudoir videography is how our studio has set itself apart from other photographers.

Consider a photographer who understand this experience from a client’s perspective.

An overlooked but very important thing to consider when looking for a boudoir photographer is, has your boudoir photographer had their own boudoir experience? It is incredibly important that your photographer understands the emotions and vulnerability it takes to have their own boudoir experience. Make sure your photographer walks the walk.

Psst…that’s me!!

Consider a photographer you can TRUST. Does your photograph respect your wishes?

I've mentioned this before, but I cannot reiterate this enough. This experience is incredibly intimate and should not be trusted to just any photographer. Can you trust your photographer to keep your images safe and private? Does your photographer use reputable vendors who work with boudoir photographers regularly? Can you trust your photographer not to post pictures you do not want online? What if you decide to change your image release and want your images removed from the internet? Is this something your photographer will do without hesitation? Can you trust your photographer to respect your boundaries and not push you into poses that make you feel uncomfortable? All very important questions to ask.

6. Understanding their pricing structure.

Choosing a photographer based on price could potentially lead to a horrible experience that breaks your confidence. This is why I don't recommend basing your decision solely on price. It is important to understand the photographer's pricing structure and overall cost. Most boudoir photographers have their prices broken into two separate fees: the session fee and the product cost. The session fee usually covers your photographer's time, the hair and makeup services provided with your session, studio time, and the creation of your art.

Product cost covers the cost of your products. The product cost usually varies depending on how you decide to display your images. Some photographers offer pre-made collections, while others allow you to create your collection. Keep in mind that cost can vary from photographer to photographer. There will always be photographers who charge more, and there will always be a photographer who will do it for less. If you find a photographer that you love that is out of your price range, it may be worth saving up or booking your session further out and taking advantage of a payment plan.

With all this said some things to consider surrounding cost. How easy is the photographer's pricing to understand? Are they upfront with their offerings, or are they holding back? Do they want you to pay your booking fee before revealing full pricing? Be leary of photographers who only give you a range of what their clients spend and won't release full pricing until you book your session. This is a HUGE red flag and may lead to a high-pressure sale you regret.

So there you have it! I hope I have left you with some things to think about and you are more confident booking a boudoir session. These are all important things to consider before booking your boudoir experience.
